The 2nd graders performed tunes from Broadway this year. The songs were Do-Re-Mi, 4 White Horses, and Hakuna Matata. They were so fun to watch!

Not so brilliant "thief"
You know "someone" has stolen your camera when...

Someone should tell LEVI that he shouldn't take mommy's camera and then take a picture of himself as evidence! Not a very smart "criminal"!
Blue and Gold Banquet
This week was our Blue and Gold Banquet. Each family was asked to bring a dessert to share, so Matt decided to make shortbread neckerchiefs. He even painted each one himself with food coloring!

At each table was a gathering activity; you had to use toothpicks and marshmallows to create different structures. Our table was building towers.
This was a very impressive playground that another table made...
Happy Birthday Cub Scouts!
Pillow buddies...
Last weekend Kellie was sick with a stomach bug. She was feeling especially tired after having been up all night sick, so she decided to take a nap. I think our dog Sally can sense when one of us isn't quite 100%, because it didn't take too long for her to come and be with our little Kellie.
(I suppose it's also possible that Sally was just taking advantage of the pillow on the floor, too...
however I like to think it's because she was watching over her little friend.)

Scenes from the Cub Klondike...
I'm not sure it really qualifies as a true "Klondike", since we didn't have any snow- but it was chilly at least, and the boys had fun nonetheless...
Here's my Caleb...

"Outdated" Dictionaries...
Aaron was doing his homework tonight and came across a word he didn't know. When he asked me to define it, I told him to go look it up in the dictionary.
Grumbling, he said, "YOU never had to use the dictionary! Why do I have to go look it up?"
I responded that "Oh, yes I did! You can even call Grandma and ask her." Which he did.
After confirming that I was indeed sent back to the dictionary many, many times, he went and retrieved the book.
After a minute or so, he came back to me- dictionary in hand and informed me that,"I can't use this book. It's copy right date is 1990. That is SO old! It's outdated."
I took a moment to decide whether or not I was going to "smack him" for insinuating that I'm old because I lived in the '90's OR if I was going to applaud his tenacious efforts to avoid his homework OR if I wanted to laugh at his clever, albeit wrong, assumption that dictionaries ever "expire."
I finally responded with this, "Dictionaries, like mothers, are never outdated. Now get to work."

Broccoli Nails
Today Levi told me that he likes my "broccoli" nails.
(I admit that it took me a few moments to realize that he was trying to say SPARKLY!) I sure love the speech of cute 3 year olds!

My Portable Chin Rest...
I just hugged my 11 year old Aaron, and realized that I could use him as a portable chin rest. He is that tall! When I commented that he will soon be taller than me he looked at me and said, "When that day comes I will look down on you all the time."
(Isn't that the story of most teenagers?) I gave him a funny look. He then amended his statement with this add-on, "...and think that's my mother, I sure love her!"

Caleb's Scotsman
Caleb has been working on a heritage project for school. He had to pick one country from his ancestry and then research traditional clothing and make his little heritage doll. I was a little surprised when he chose Scotland, after all the boys are in "skirts" -I mean kilts- but he was sure that is what he wanted. These pictures are of his doll- note the kilt is even pleated in back! Good job Caleb!

Seth's First Cereal
Seth is full of new surprises these days! Last week he started rolling over and today we noticed he has a brand new tooth peeking though the gums! He sure is growing up fast. Tonight he tried his first cereal as well. Overall it was a hit but we might do better without so much "help" from the "peanut gallery" (namely Levi and Kellie) next time.
They were so excited that they kept talking VERY loudly at him, encouraging him to "EAT! EAT! EAT!" Quite frankly I don't think he could eat under that kind of pressure!
Here's the Boy in his Halloween bib.
(note to self- buy him some new bibs next time you're at the store!)
