Goodbye Road, Goodbye Easy-access to School

That river of water that was flowing past the elementary school between our subdivision and the next one over has receded significantly, but left a washout in the process.
My friend and neighbor took these photos, and actually was able to watch the road fall though. (Talk about timing!)
Looks like we'll be taking the long way to school for a while, which is a bit funny really, since we live in one of the subdivisions closest to the school, and frequently walk. We will have to circle around several blocks and go in from the other direction.
Luckily we won't have to worry about that for a couple days seeing whereas school has been cancelled until Thursday next week, at the very least.

There are still several road closures and we are for the most part still stuck at home, but we are doing well. We are still dry and safe, at least. It is showing signs of improvement, so we'll see how the rest of the weekend progresses.

Flooding...

We have had rain all week and we now have "lake-front" property. Not really, but it is crazy to see. The news is pretty wild, what with dams failing and roads collapsing. As for us, we are pretty much blocked in right now, due to road closures. (Meaning we could still get out, but we are cut off from most of the rest of town. Luckily the frontage road was still open, so if we needed to- we can still get to the highway.) Other than static-y phone reception we seem to be doing fine. We are fortunate though. Many friends in the area have flooded basements and there are some power outages and some homes have even been evacuated.

Mustaches?

Last night I sent Matt to the store to pick up a cake for Levi's birthday today. He came home with this one. I admit I am a bit puzzled for several reasons.
1.) Why would Matt pick out a cake with ice cream cones wearing mustaches for our soon to be 4 year old?
2.) Is there really a market for cakes with ice cream cones wearing mustaches? Really?

Matt's response:
"I honestly didn't notice the mustaches..." (Really, Matt? Really!?)
and
"... it makes a whole lot more sense now. I was kind of wondering what a mustache cake was from the label. I figured it must be some kind of flavor or something." (Again: Really, Matt? Really!?)

I am still giggling over here and looking at the cake thinking it is truly ugly. Oh well. Levi LOVED it!

Bike Derby/Pack Meeting

Last week we had a Bike Derby/Pack Meeting. We had a local Police Officer come and talk about bike safety and he even showed all the kids the back of his car.(The overall consensus was that the back seat of a police car wasn't very comfortable!) Fun times...
